TThe Africa Progress Report 2012 was launched on 11 May 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the World Economic Forum on Africa. The report was presented at a press conference by Kofi AnnanPeter EigenBob GeldofOlusegun Obasanjo and Tidjane Thiam. The event drew a large and diverse audience: over 100 journalists and friends of the APP from partner organizations registered for the event.

Prominent guests attending the launch event included Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy of Nigeria, Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank, Jean Ping, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, and Abdoulie Janneh, UN Under Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), among others.

The purpose of the APP report is to provide an overview of the progress Africa has made over the previous year. Drawing on the research and analysis available on Africa the Panel recommends a series of policy choices and actions for African policy makers who have primary responsibility for Africa’s progress, as well as international partners and civil society organisations.
